The Whirlpool looks great, first and foremost. It does the job of cooling my studio apartment very well, and quickly. The remote is great for late night adjustments when you're too tired to get out of bed. The unit had a small imperfection in the fins when it arrived, something punctured the box, everything else was perfect.

The two gripes I have with the air-conditioner are in it's automatic features, and its blue readout.

The blue digital temperature guage looks nice but is crazy-bright at night. You can run the air conditioner in night mode to turn it off, but there is additional programming in night mode that automatically increases the temp throughout the night incrementally. I don't understand the logic behind raising the temperature 2 degrees every 2 hours or whatever it is- but on a hot summer night- things get hot and incredibly uncomfortable at 78 degrees. To counter it I'd start the night off at 68 degrees and end up at 74 by the morning. 68 is too cold for me, and I don't like that I have to work around something, when all I want is constant cooling with the light off.

One other issue I've run into is with the powersaver mode. It shuts the fan and compressor off completely when the right temp is achieved- great feature- except that the unit has a hard time reading the interior temp when the fan isn't running. So it'll get up to almost 80 in the house between cycles, and the readout will still be at 74-76 on the unit. As soon as the fan kicks back on or you manually start it back up, you can see the readout immediately increase to room's actual temp which is much higher.

So ideally i'd like a machine that I just set the temperature and the rest takes care of itself, but the unit needs a little babysitting to keep things at optimal levels in the house.
