As background, I've been making Belgian waffles for my family for almost two years now, for average of 3 times a week. We tried many cheaper ones on the market, but settled on Waring Pro double waffle maker for the last 18 months. The cooking surface has worn so I decided to replace with a new one. This product caught my eye with its features and stellar (but few) reviews.First the waffle maker. The countdown timer is very nice, although not intelligent. It sets on 2 minutes when sufficient batter is on the iron, regardless of whether I finished pouring it or closed the lid. Overflowing channel is easily cleaned. The separate control for crispness is cool. I especially loved the method of making it non-stick: simply add some water and steam it off instead of spray with oil.
The actual waffles baked (4 squares) are crispy at the time cooking is done, and it remained crispy when cold. The reason is the ridges / walls separating the holes are super thin. There is no "meat!" The Belgian waffles I'm used to have 1/8" width between holes and therefore can become soggy if the filling is "eggy" or not properly exposed during heat dissipation. The waffles made with this machine are also thinner between the top and bottom side, so they are less "breaded" if you will.
I personally not too fond of less-meaty waffles, and it turns out my family members are more vocal on this - boths kids and wife. They are used to "meatier" waffles like me. So my wish is Chef's Choice to make a waffle maker of this caliber, but for "meatier" waffles.
