You know how those rubber net like rug pads will discolor your floors? This won't do that. So much better for your hardwood floors, or cork floor. And if you've made a big investment in a carpet, you definitely should spring for this better rug pad. I have this under a huge oriental rug in the bedroom. It makes the rug feel twice as thick and soft under foot, while adding to the rug's sound deadening properties. It is not a spongy feel like foam rubber under wall to wall carpets, (which will eventually compress over time in the high traffic areas) and it doesn't let off any strange fumes. It feels like part of the rug. I cut it about an inch smaller than the rug so that the rug would fold over the pad and touch the floor, making someone less apt to trip over the edge. It is heavyer to handle than the thin rubber ones that you can buy in all the discount mega-stores, so if you order a really big pad you'll want a hand laying it out and getting it straight on the floor. I am extremely pleased with this pad and would not hesitate to order another one.
